Canggu’s charm growing, south of Bali still more popular: Tiket.com, Google

Despite some recent setbacks (most recently a controversy over “booming” noises at beach clubs), Canggu’s upward trend in popularity remains strong, according to travel apps Tiket.com and Google Indonesia.

In a virtual press conference on Bali travel trends yesterday, the companies also said that southern Bali, which has weathered the pandemic, remains a sought-after destination for sun-seekers on the island of the gods.

“The focus right now is on recovery (from the pandemic). Interestingly, there are several (regions in Bali) that are recovering faster, such as Canggu,” said Gaery Undarsa, co-founder and chief marketing officer of Tiket.com.

Gaery added that according to Tiket.com, the southern part of Bali remains the most popular area for tourists. Southern hotspots in Bali also include Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua and Uluwatu.

Interestingly, another travel website, ParkSleepFly.com, recently ranked Uluwatu as the seventh best surfing destination in the world.

Vania Anindiar, Google Indonesia travel analyst, said tourist interest in northern Bali, which includes areas such as Ubud and Kintamani, is relatively low.

“The main searches are in Denpasar (and) South Kuta. The biggest volumes are here because travelers are entering (Bali) from (these areas),” she said.
