The Cambodia Travel Goods and Leather Association (CTLA), a non-profit organization supporting businesses in the luggage and leather manufacturing industries, was recently established in Phnom Penh. Speaking at the inauguration, Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An said there were generally “positive signs” in production and exports across sectors.
Growth is driving job creation, boosting household incomes and stimulating the economy, he said.
Cambodian media reports quoted the deputy prime minister as saying: “On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, I would like to support the establishment of the association, which will serve as an intermediary agency, support and cooperate with domestic and foreign governments and private institutions to help promote the development of the leather and luggage industry.”

The minister also urged the association to be active in social work and humanitarian activities, contributing to the government’s efforts to help the poor, the needy and victims of natural disasters.
Four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed at the opening ceremony. The first MOU was between CTLA and the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC) to collaborate in the promotion of travel goods and leather in Cambodia. The second is a collaboration between the Cambodian Footwear Association (CFA) and CCC on promoting the development of the footwear industry.
CTLA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore-Cambodia International College (SCIA) to designate the latter as a training provider for CTLA’s member workforce.
Accordingly, SCIA will partner with CTLA to provide training in two areas: technical training, which provides members with skills training and certification in line with standards set by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and the International Labor Organization, and management training aimed at improving factory productivity and efficiency.
The fourth memorandum of understanding signed between CTLA and Huawei Technologies (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. is about the cooperation of Cambodia’s green and smart campus.
