The Malaysia-Indonesia Vaccination Travel Lane (VTL) is expected to open early next year, allowing travelers to finally cross the border to our neighboring country.

So, if you’ve always dreamed of vacationing in Bali, your dream may soon come true. Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob had previously said that at an early stage, VTL lanes between Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta and between Kuala Lumpur and Bali may be the first to open.

according to starIndonesia’s ambassador to Malaysia, Hermono, said a group of Indonesian officials visited Malaysia last week to conduct a technical inspection of the proposed VTL. He also said that VTL needs to solve some technical problems before it can be officially opened.

This includes interoperability between MySejahtera in Malaysia and Peduli Lindungi in Indonesia, mutual recognition of vaccines, and standardization of RT-PCR COVID-19 tests.

If the Malaysia-Indonesia VTL goes ahead, it will become the second country to open a travel bubble for Malaysia after Singapore. Additional VTLs are currently being delayed due to the increasing threat of Omicron variants. Malaysia has also banned tourists from some high-risk countries such as Malawi, South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

This is a developing story.
