New Facility Will Collaborate with Applied Materials Engineers, Suppliers and Academic Institutions to Accelerate Development and Commercialization of Semiconductor Device Technology
Center builds on Applied Materials’ 20-year track record in India and is part of plans to expand its global innovation infrastructure
Applied Materials, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMAT; Headquarters: Santa Clara, Calif.; President and Chief Executive Officer Gary E. Dickerson) today announced its intention to establish a collaborative engineering center in Bangalore, India, to pursue the development and commercialization of semiconductor manufacturing equipment technologies.
The center will bring together Applied Materials engineers, leading domestic and foreign suppliers, and top research and academic institutions to collaborate on the common goal of accelerating the development of semiconductor device subsystems and components. It also aims to facilitate the development of human resources to lead the semiconductor industry in the future and create new opportunities to expand India’s role in the global chip manufacturing ecosystem.

The collaborative engineering center will be built adjacent to Applied Materials’ existing campus in Bengaluru as part of the company’s previously announced plans to expand its global innovation infrastructure. Applied Materials currently has six locations in India with a large organization spanning product development, R&D, IT and operations. It also works closely with several leading academic institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) and the Indian Institute of Technology (Mumbai), which has a Materials Development Center dedicated to developing next-generation chemicals and materials for use in the semiconductor industry. New collaborative engineering centers will enhance Applied Materials’ high-speed innovation platforms, including the upcoming EPIC Center in Silicon Valley.
Applied Materials plans to invest a total of $400 million in the new center in India over the next four years. Five years after opening, the center will support more than $2 billion in investment projects, create at least 500 high-skilled jobs, and have the potential to create 2,500 jobs in the manufacturing ecosystem. *
