“Alfredo Cristiani came into office with a lot of debt and went on to become a millionaire”
The Attorney General of the Republic, Rodolfo Delgado, revealed this Thursday that the former president of the Republic, Alfredo Cristiani, could have gotten rich with public money.
«When I arrived at FGR, I found a survey that had been abandoned and archived. The investigation establishes how Alfredo Cristiani rose to become a millionaire from a deeply indebted presidency,” prosecutors said.
Within the framework of the war against corruption announced by President Nayib Bukele this Thursday, the Attorney General’s Office has started searches of various properties belonging to former President Alfredo Cristiani.
“What they have created is a reservoir where only one group of people has taken over El Salvador’s money. This is the beginning of a statement that we all must implement. Point out corrupt officials past and present, and beware of corrupt officials in the future,” he said.
Cristiani was President of the Republic from 1989 to 1994.
