To see what the Maldives has to offer, you should start with the capital, Male. Male’ is a must-see destination for its rich history, vibrant architecture, azure sea and swaying palm trees. It has historical buildings on one side and different colors of blue and green on the other. There are plenty of fun things to do in Male, like walking the streets filled with colorful markets, or learning about the history of the Maldives at the National Museum.

The beaches of the Maldives are some of the most stunning in the world, and Vaadhoo Island is home to a stunning natural spectacle – sparkling blue waters. The dizzying “sea of stars” is a natural phenomenon that creates this celestial landscape. Phytoplankton in the ocean produce bioluminescence, which causes this effect. The bright blue neon hue of the breaking waves is most noticeable at night, but that’s rarely the case. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, you can expect it to appear again from late summer to the end of the year. The Great Friday Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world, with a capacity of up to 5,000 people. The mosque attracts many tourists and pilgrims every year for its exquisite marble exterior and huge golden dome, both of which are even more breathtaking. Part of the Islamic Center in Male, the mosque is conveniently located near the city’s main jetty, where it can be seen from the water. You are welcome to visit anytime from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, you should try to avoid going during prayer times so as not to disrupt the gathering of worshipers.

Named for its shape when viewed from above, Banana Reef is located in the northern part of Male Island. Without a doubt, this is the most famous diving spot in the entire Maldives and the world.
