The beaches of the Maldives are some of the most stunning in the world, and Vaadhoo Island is home to a stunning natural spectacle – sparkling blue waters. The dizzying “sea of stars” is a natural phenomenon that creates this celestial landscape. Phytoplankton in the ocean produce bioluminescence, which causes this effect. The bright blue neon hue of the breaking waves is most noticeable at night, but that’s rarely the case. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, you can expect it to appear again from late summer to the end of the year. As with every natural phenomenon, it takes a bit of luck to fully appreciate this magnificent flash event!
