Samar province is in the headlines for the most troubling reasons. But despite the devastating ordeals that have stained its rugged and peaceful terrain, its people still hope that soon will come when Sama will be known for withstanding the trials of the past and become a bastion of progress. We visited some of the most famous places in the province and saw the efforts of LGUs and local communities to improve their lifestyles through tourism. We went to Samal Archaeological and Cultural Museum, Sohoton Cave and Basey’s Natural Bridge, Saob Cave, Tarangban declineBangon Waterfall, Kaprayut City and Coral Reef Beach Resort.

Our visit to Kalanggaman Island was inspiring as we discovered that the island has been kept in its pristine state through sustainable tourism. Raoul T. Bacalla – MENRO officer in Palompon, where Kalanggaman is located, briefed us on a product update. The Municipality of Palompon certainly deserves credit for developing the island without sacrificing nature.
