(CNN) Luxurious beds and hot tubs are all well and good, but when was the last time you stayed at a hotel that offered real animal care?

Some hotels around the world offer the chance to interact with animals, from herons to horses, in addition to standard room service.

7. Jumeirah Vittaveli (Maldives)

The Maldives is a treasure trove of beautiful tropical fish, and this luxury resort keeps gray herons as pets.

A staff member put identification tags on several newborn herons, and the herons have settled on the island ever since.

The resort has 89 villas and suites with private pools. Also, the resort is directly connected to the beach and lagoon, so gray herons can be seen from time to time.

There is also a royal residence with five bedrooms and a private ocean, pool and floating bar.

8. Dubai Desert Palms (United Arab Emirates)

The main attraction of the Palm Desert, about 20 minutes from Dubai International Airport, is the ponies. Guests can feed the horses or book a 45-minute riding lesson at the resort’s Spanish riding school, which has approximately 70 horses.

There is also a daily polo match at tea time, which guests can watch while enjoying champagne and cake.

Meet Snoop Dogg at Moonfleet Manor

9. Moonfleet Manor (Dorset, England)

This family-friendly hotel has a secluded location on the Jurassic Coast of southern England, enjoying the fresh sea air or strolling along the nearby lagoon beaches.

The hotel also has a cocker spaniel named “Snoopy” and eight playful chickens, adding to the friendly atmosphere of the 18th-century building.

It also has facilities such as a sandbox and a trampoline to keep the kids from getting bored.

10. Anantara Al Jabal Al Afdar Resort (Green Mountains, Oman)

Nestled in a green mountain gorge at 2,000 meters above sea level, this luxury resort features villas with private pools, hammam spa and stargazing deck. There will also be yoga sessions as the sun rises.

The resort has a donkey that kids can ride every Friday.

Experience the Edge of Africa in Florida

11. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge (Florida, USA)

Nestled on the sprawling prairies, this family-friendly resort will transport you like you’re on an American safari. A five-meter-tall African mask towers over the lobby, and many of the rooms facing the pool or wildlife sanctuary are decorated with Zimbabwean ornaments.

Guests can observe zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, impalas, storks and about 200 species of mammals and birds from the observation deck, which is open 24 hours a day, and guests can also experience a 3-hour sunset safari before dinner.

12. Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire

The property is a restored Georgian mansion set in extensive countryside with its own stables, horses and ‘Oliver Beckington’ dog.

The dog is a bit of a celebrity dog, having graced the cover of local magazines and been featured in UK magazine Tatler and US magazine Vanity Fair.

Dog beds, tableware and dog food are provided for guests with dogs, and pet sitting services are also available.
