1. Dress lightly
Dressing lightly is the ultimate secret to staying comfortable and cool in warm weather. We recommend packing clothing made of breathable fabrics (such as cotton, linen) or moisture-wicking materials to promote air circulation and prevent sweat build-up. Choose loose clothing to enhance air circulation and reduce skin contact, and don’t forget to choose light-colored clothing to reflect the sun!
If you’re indoors or traveling by train, the heat might be more tolerable, however, if you’re visiting natural attractions like Marina Barrage or Gardens by the Bay (boo…look at all the halal food nearby!), You will be exposed to the sun. So in addition to dressing simple, we recommend that you check the weather forecast regularly!
2. Obtain an EZ-Link card
EZ-Link cards are awesome! It costs as little as $5 and comes in a variety of designs, styles, and forms (some charms hang from your phone!). This is your ticket for easy travel on public transport including buses, light rail and subways. Taking public transport can save you a lot of money, and most metro stations have interchanges (for taking buses) and/or connect to malls for window shopping – or even just use the air conditioning! Some of the most popular malls are also connected to MRT stations such as Jewel Changi Airport and IMM Outlet Mall; here are more tourist malls!

3. Understand laws and regulations
Whether you’re a local or a tourist, it’s important to know the ropes. Deviate from the path of compliance, and you could face some surprising consequences. Yes, singing naughty songs may get you more than just giggles – a hefty fine! Littering is another big no-no! So, be informed and make things fun, respectful and easy.
4. Know Your Internet Options
Let’s be honest, saying goodbye to Wi-Fi feels like a painful goodbye to most of us! But there is a loophole when you visit shopping malls and large venues. Connect to any (email protected) hotspot and sign up with your international phone number to get free Wi-Fi.
Want more internet freedom? Get a SIM card! Just show your passport and mobile voucher at Changi Airport’s M1 retail outlets or Cheers convenience stores and you can surf the web like a pro.
If you’re worried about losing your SIM card when you change it, consider using an eSIM. Check out these eSim programs to keep Malaysian tourists connected!
5. Apply for tax refund
This is for all the shopaholics in the audience! Don’t forget this great Singapore travel tip: get your 7% GST refund at the airport when you fly! Treat yourself to stylish items at Fossil, Charles & Keith and more. Just make sure you spend more than S$100 and keep these receipts safe. Get your extra cash back and start your shopping adventure!
6. Tipping is not mandatory
Tipping is not mandatory in Singapore! In fact, a service charge is often added to pay for the hard work of a great waiter, not to make you awkwardly decide how much to tip. However, if you were more than happy with the service, or it wasn’t stated on the bill, you’re in a position to show some extra love! Show your appreciation with a tip, a generous 5% will do.
7. Bring a reusable water bottle
If you’re exploring Singapore’s major attractions, such as Marina Barrage and Mandai Zoo, you’re likely to come across a drinking fountain or tap for filling your water.
8. Buy travel insurance
Buying travel insurance may be one of the most important things on your list! Not only is there a whole host of different travel insurance types, but you can also purchase the policy that best suits your travel needs and inclinations. Sometimes, certain situations or groups of people may not be covered by travel insurance, so make sure you do your proper research!
9. Bring the right card
Singapore is a country that is gradually going cashless, especially in certain restaurants and bakeries. Be sure to check that the credit or debit card you are carrying is accepted at most stores! Another tip (in this one) is to check with the staff before placing an order or buying that their store accepts your card. There’s nothing more excruciating than ordering something and realizing you have very limited payment options!
10. Take as many train rides as you can
As mentioned earlier, most train stations in Singapore are connected to major shopping malls, attractions and bus interchanges. Traveling on these trains is an experience in itself, as you’ll be able to see out the window many fascinating sights such as a playground, nearby houses, cafes and even a reservoir!
I hope these insights help you make memorable memories in our amazing city. Come and enjoy your time exploring Singapore’s fascinating mix of cultures, sights and flavors. Have a safe journey, and may your journey be filled with joy and blessings!
